Strathmere

An unincorporated community located in the Upper Township area of Cape May County,
Strathmere occupies a small strip of coastline between Ocean City and Sea Isle City and
has fewer than 200 year­-round residents. Just two blocks wide and 1.5 miles long, there’s
not a lot of room for an abundance of houses or residents. The town offers an excellent
and impeccably maintained beach not just for those residents but the many vacationers
who visit each year looking to escape the crowds on beaches elsewhere along the Jersey
coast. One of the family friendliest beaches to be found, it’s attended by plenty of
lifeguards to ensure everyone’s safety. Of course the same reasons that make the
community a favorite among vacationers year after year are also reasons it’s such a great
place to live or invest in a vacation rental.

Homes here command premium prices with few found under $600K but plenty to be
found on the other side of $1 million. Then again, town residents get to enjoy one of the
less commercial and easy­going beach experiences to be found but are still close enough
to entertainment and shopping in adjoining Sea Isle City and Ocean City. Avalon is about
15 miles away and 25 minutes down the coast, The Wildwoods offer a wide variety of
attractions and entertainment, including classic seaside amusement parks and water
parks. With the Atlantic Ocean as the community’s eastern border, its western border is
marshlands and a network of waterways that make it ideal for boaters, kayakers and
fishermen. The community’s Whale Creek Marina, which describes itself as friendly, laid
back and full­-service, offers a complete menu of services along with a full line of rods and
tackle. The marina also offers kayak, boat and crab pot rental. For the more
adventuresome, Atlantic City and its many casinos and attractions is just about 30
minutes away while the birthplace of America and attractions like Independence Hall,
Constitution Center, the Museum of Natural History and many other attractions are about
an hour’s drive away in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is also home to some of the country’s
most vibrant nightlife and top professional sports teams, not to mention its many great
nightspots, children’s activities, restaurants and shops.
